FAQ's
WHAT IS PHYSIOTHERAPY?... Physiotherapy is a division of healthcare that aims to improve movement, reduce pain and restore function. Whether you have a new or existing injury, want help creating a strong and resilient body, need post operative support or guidance with improving overall quality of life, physio can help.
DO I HAVE TO BE IN PAIN TO COME TO PHYSIO? You do not need to have a specific pain or injury for physio. I actively promote a proactive rather than reactive approach to movement. Helping to improve strength, mobility, improve performance and overall confidence with movement is an approach I am very passionate about. Mitigating injury risk, education and a personalised exercise programme builds a robust body and instils confidence in movement, with longevity being the overall goal.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING MY FIRST APPOINTMENT? This always begins with a discussion about what brings you in to physio. It enables me to build a picture of how I can help you and what your goals are. A movement assessment will be undertaken along with some time for hands on treatment as deemed necessary and we will start to build a personalised rehabilitation/movement programme together. All programmes are accessed via an app and emailed for adherence and accessibility.
WHAT MAKES YOUR APPROACH DIFFERENT? As both a Physiotherapist and Strength & Conditioning Coach, I bridge the gap between rehabilitation and training/performance. Strength training is a skill and a specialism. Good rehab should blend with training, not have separate lanes. Theway I work is designed to provide continued guidance beyond individual appointments. Progress is built through the choices made when I'm not with you. Consistency through guidance creates adherence, confidence and lasting change.
HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED? The honest answer is 'it depends'. There are several factors for consideration including the nature of the condition, how long you've had it, your goals and lifestyle. We'll discuss this together with options provided on the initial appointment and agree on a plan that feels realistic and appropriate for you.
CAN PHYSIOTHERAPY PREVENT INJURIES? Injuries can't be completely prevented, though you can reduce the risk and the duration of the consequences. This is why building resilience and capacity through strong foundations is crucial.
DO YOU ONLY WORK WITH ATHLETES? Not at all. I work with people of all ages and walks of life, though the vast majority of individuals that I see are very active.
